A Year in Fic (2021)

Total number of completed stories: Eight, including one DVD commentary!
Total word count: 74,494
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted? Uhhh, somehow all three at the same time? I'd already hit ~75k by June, which put me on track for the most words I'd ever written in a year. As you can see from my total word count, I didn't publish anything else, which ALSO puts me around my predicted total of 75k AND leaves me with fewer words than I'd expected in June alksdjflsajk.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? My overwhelming love for Cangse-sanren! In which I trip over a character, go FREE REAL ESTATE and completely lose the plot, a la Lan Qiren.
What’s your own favorite story of the year? our memory rewinds the sky, which is also my favorite fic, period. It and lullaby our ghosts farewell are the closest I've ever come to writing a story exactly as I thought it needed to be told.
Did you take any writing risks this year? I wrote a made-for-podfic fic! And did a DVD commentary on a fic!
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year? I'd like to finish the soulmate au (the series should run a total of seven fics, and is currently sitting at 38k of unpublished words, with more still to be transcribed) and... maybe do Yuletide this year? It sounds like it would be fun. I'd also like to get into bookbinding, just in general.

My most popular story of this year: lullaby our ghosts farewell, which is shocking to me? I thought that series as a whole would get minimal hits / engagement due to the subject matter and having Lan Qiren as the main character. I'm very *wooby emoji* about the whole thing.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: our memory rewinds the sky alkjdflak. I love everyone who reads my fic, and obviously every reader has their own preferences, but I do feel a little pang when I can see it get skipped in the kudos email.
Most fun story to write: Rage Against the Heart's Content! Teenage Cangse-sanren and Lan Qiren crack me up, they're so FUNNY. They're also the reason the soulmate au won't stop expanding *nervous laughter*
Story with the single sexiest moment: Absolutely Just to Feel the Give and Take. LISTEN Lan Qiren and Cangse-sanren having sex that is BOTH first-time sex and pregnant sex? With sex hiccups? And genuine care? *kisses fingers* I will not be accepting constructive criticism at this time.
Most “holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you” story: On a PERSONAL LEVEL, it's getting emotionally invested in MULTIPLE CHARACTERS who I knew were going to die, and then being all *surprised pikachu* when I dealt myself emotional damage.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: My Wei Changze pov fic, Save Your Sorrow. I hope you're happy, Kassie!!!
Hardest story to write: the gallery of our bones. It's the last fic I wrote for the angst au, and Kassie had to stop me from yeeting the entire thing multiple times. I'm feeling marginally more sane about it now, but only marginally. (thanks kassie <3)
Biggest disappointment: Probably not writing as much fic as I'd wanted to, though the flip side of that is writing other things + good RL stuff!
Biggest surprise: Beside the response to the angst au? How many people appear to like Wei Changze/Cangse-sanren/Lan Qiren as a pairing, hahaha. I thought I'd be rowing my little ship by myself, and I'm glad people are feeling it!
